About Andrea
My name is Andrea Bohorquez. I was born in Colombia, South America. I moved to the United States with my parents when I was nine years old. I’m now 36 years old. I am fluent in Spanish and English. I can read and write both languages as well. I used to be a bilingual teacher at Katy ISD but I love Spanish so much that I decided that tutoring Spanish is more my thing. I also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Hola amigos! This is Andrea. I’m going to talk to you today about what Spanish classes with me are like. I have two ways that I can work with you. I have my 30 minute conversation sessions which the goal is just to speak in Spanish the entire time. I will facilitate the conversation based on your level even if you are a total beginner and just starting to learn Spanish. The conversation sessions can be free form (casual conversations) or they can also be more structured. The options for structured conversations can be based around a certain theme such as asking for directions or talking about our hobbies, etc. so we can have a particular theme assigned for each class. And then you can research and prepare a few sentences that you might like to ask or state during the class and I can guide the conversation based on that.
The other type of classes that I have are the hour long grammar classes. We do have a little bit of conversation in the beginning to get you comfortable and to get you in a little bit of conversation practice as well, but the main focus of those classes is on grammar. I have a grammatical workbook I like to work with because it covers some of the most important building blocks of the Spanish language. The way it works is we’ll start in a certain section and we’ll begin to move through the workbook. My priority is on you really feeling comfortable with the material before we move on, so we can move at whatever pace is needed. Typically we’ll work through the workbook since the classes are structured in a progressive way, presenting the information and making the exercises little by little more challenging and building on the information in the previous chapters. We don’t have to start in the beginning, it just depends on where you’re at in your learning journey. I recommend a combination of the 30 minute conversation classes and the hour-long grammar classes if you’re just getting started with your Spanish studies. I would recommend if you’re further along we can focus more on the conversation sessions and an occasional grammar class if there is a particular topic that comes up that we want to dig a little bit deeper into. I can record the class if you’d like and share it with you afterwards. After the class I’ll send a homework assignment. I’ll assign you typically 30 minutes worth of homework outside of class, and that will be to supplement what we’re working on in class. We’ll start our next class by going over the homework and any questions that have come up. I always say I’m a resource to the students, so if something comes up that you want to talk about definitely bring it up. I like to ask some open ended questions after we review the material, like “how do you feel about that?” I’m very flexible and open to your feedback as well. Most of my students work with me once or twice a week, you can do more you can do less it just depends availability and budget. You can book a free consultation as well, and after the consultation I’ll send you information about the payment for the classes if you are interested.
I love the Spanish language but I also understand that it can be a little challenging. I also hope that you’ll feel that it’s rewarding, fun and interesting. looking forward to being your tutora de español.
Adiós!
