About Kiara
I am a science teacher who just finished her first year teaching. I taught students whose native language was Spanish. Patience was a virtue this year. Before beginning lessons I like to build a rapport to understand the kind of students that I have. Once I understand my student I can adjust my lessons to the level the student is on. I was a pre-medical student in college I had to take a multitude of biology and chemistry courses that were not easy. I had to get help for many of my courses which led to my success. Science can seem to be a giant to some but it is really a big buffet that when taken in small plates can be digested by anybody. Anybody can learn!

-Lesson plan include: timed activities using the 5E instructional method engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate
Engage activities last no longer than 5-10 minutes to give scholars a quick glimpse of the lesson for the day or remediate from the previous lesson
Explore/Explain activities give the scholar to take a deep dive into content via interactive activity (I.e. gizmos, Nearpod, or interactive notes). Time varies depending on the students.
Elaborate/Evaluate activities give scholars the opportunity to apply their knowledge.

Engage: watch a 5 minute video about photosynthesis
Explore: completing a gizmo exploring parts of the plant and discussing the process of photosynthesis
Explain: completing interactive notes on photosynthesis
I am a middle school level science by profession but I have taken higher level biology and chemistry courses as a pre-medical student in college.
- I am a patient teacher, I do not mind questions or need of remediation of topics. I believe it is imperative that as a tutor/ teacher my job is done when the student feels they can teach me the topic!
