I am honored by opportunities that allow me to play a role in convincing students that they are capable. I deeply enjoy seeing students gain confidence in their academic abilities.

I have been fortunate enough to have taught and tutored children in ages ranging from five-years-old to thirteen years old. I have taught in classrooms, I have tutored small groups, and I have tutored one-one-one. The experiences differ, but each is gratifying.

I have earned degrees from Texas A&M, Lone Star College, and Houston Baptist University. I have an associate of science in biology and an associate of art in English from Lone Star College, a bachelor of science in psychology from Houston Baptist University, a bachelor of art in communication with a focus in journalism from Texas A&M, and earlier this month I accepted an fellowship opportunity from Southern New Hampshire University as a doctoral candidate pursuing a PhD in MESA - an acronym for measurement, evaluation, statistics, and assessment. This educational journey will teach me to excel in research, research design, statistical methods, and testing. I enjoy learning.

I am excited to tutor in a variety of subjects including English, language arts, reading, writing, literature, world history, US history, social studies, studying techniques, and organizational techniques.

I enjoy teaching any subject with which I am familiar, but my favorite would probably fall somewhere under the umbrella of language arts. I enjoy reading and reflecting on that reading. I also enjoy writing of nearly any kind. Books provide us with so many wonderful stories embedded with lessons which are applicable to the lives of so many. Writing can be used as an outlet, as a leisurely activity, for journaling, or to let your imagination take you somewhere you want to go.

My teaching philosophy is first and foremost to have confidence in my students. Children pick up not only on what is said by an authoritative adult, but also by what is not said. If a teacher lacks confidence in a student, that lack of confidence will transfer to the student. Another piece of my philosophy is that my own enthusiasm about the subject is critical to keeping children engaged. It is also important to be adaptable and flexible. Even the best lesson plans can cause children's attention to waver and their interest to wane, so adaptability and flexibility are critical tools for teachers who want their students to not only learn, but to be enthusiastically engaged.

My tutoring techniques will vary from one child to the next. Some children require a great deal of verbal encouragement while other children are annoyed by this. Some children want concise explanations of the area that is troubling them and then like to try and apply that explanation independently while others need a lengthy discussion and prefer that I walk alongside them as they approach the problem. My tutoring techniques are tailored individually and the tailoring improves as I spend more time with the student.
