About Arlene
The motto “Leave no one behind” is embedded in my nature as it relates to teaching and learning. Born and raised in the Caribbean we were not just audio or visual but tactile learners. We used products from our environment to create rich, lasting memories. For example- while in PreK the teachers would not just show/drill us a number (for example 5) but made us look inside the classroom and find 5 books, pencils, 5 book bags,… and or literally go outside and pick up objects-stones, leaves, flowers, sticks, … the number she wants us to further identify and reinforce this concept. Reading was fascinating, as our teachers made us pretend to be the character(s) in the story or even our names to further immerse in the story(ies). This act garnered our full attention and she was able to ask deep questions and solicit genuine, thoughtful answers. As a child, brought up in that hemisphere your imagination grew and expanded into other genre(s). This is the position from which I will teach.
