I am a graduate in Biology and Geology from the University of Bristol studying MSc Biotechnology at Edinburgh University looking to tutor students from secondary school age through to first year undergraduate level.
I like to focus on supporting a student with their work from school/university. In a first session I would want to gauge what level we are working at and if there are gaps in the student's knowledge. From there we can choose a few topics to focus on in subsequent sessions, whilst also working on homework/assignments that have been set.
A typical lesson will begin with a 5 minute revision exercise on what we did last week. After that I usually give a short explanation or exercise about the topic of the week to introduce the student to it. After that we will work through a few problems or questions in that topic and discuss the possible solutions. This way you get to put into practice what you have just learnt immediately. As well as this, I like to link a concept or principal we learn about to something meaningful in industry. If you can understand why we use or do something in science, it makes it much easier to understand!
I have been tutoring family friends for around 4 years. One of the students I have tutored a lot managed to achieve an "A" grade in her sciences having been predicted a B at best. My first degree has given me a lot of experience in most areas of the natural sciences and I enjoy passing that knowledge on. As a postgraduate, my dissertation is focused on how to educate people who aren't scientists on complex advancements in my field.
I do not have a car so if you would like me to travel to you I would ask that the cost of my bus/buses may be covered.
If you wish to make any specific requests please do not hesitate to contact me.

Robin's tutor sessions are both engaging and very helpful. He is able to perceive the student's most effective way of learning and adapts his way of teaching accordingly. Robin is always patient throughout each lesson, and never fails to explain a problem if a pupil has trouble understanding. His good qualities, such as his sense of humour and emotional intelligence, are also revealed during his sessions and this makes them very enjoyable.
