About Katherine
I am a deeply curious person with a real enthusiasm for science, which I love to share with others. One of my passions is widening participation within STEM and within academia more generally, and take a particular emphasis on encouraging confidence and interest in the sciences through broader insight into the field. Past experiences as a private tutor, as well as my own experiences as a young woman in Physics, have directly shown me the impact of these factors. In tandem with an in-depth and rigorous exposition of the vital concepts at the appropriate level, which I can offer, this has transformed previous students' perceptions of science as well as their performance in exams.

As a tutor, I focus on increasing enthusiasm, engagement, and confidence with STEM subjects. This entails personalising lessons to involve effective science communication that caters to the learning styles of the particular student, while encouraging active participation, curiosity, and asking questions. I open ongoing dialogues between the student and myself, creating an organic and supportive learning environment. A typical session entails first focusing on content, often using original and interesting examples to situate scientific concepts within the 'real world', followed by in-depth analysis and discussion of exam questions.
Having studied Physics at the University of Manchester, and attended the University of Cambridge for the past year, I also offer support for University admissions processes.
