About Jaelyn
Hi! I am Jaelyn Bedell, a 5th grade teacher in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Elementary Education, and I am currently working toward full licensure. I specialize in elementary math and science and focus on helping students build confidence while truly understanding what they are learning.
I believe strong relationships are the foundation of success, so I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things. My teaching style is engaging, structured, and easy to follow, with strategies that help students become more independent over time.
Outside of the classroom, I coach volleyball and have been involved in sports my entire life, including competing as a scholarship athlete in college. I bring that same energy, encouragement, and teamwork mindset into my teaching. I also love to cook. I am young and relatable (although some of my students may beg to differ), which helps me connect with students and keep sessions engaging. My favorite colors are pink and green, and I love bringing positive, upbeat energy into every session.
My goal is always to help students feel confident, capable, and successful.

My teaching style is very relationship-based. I try to build trust with my students first so they feel comfortable asking questions and not being afraid to get things wrong. I break things down into simple, repeatable steps and give them strategies they can always go back to. For example, when I teach long division, I use “Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Rover (the dog)?” so they can remember each step and feel more confident working through problems on their own.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review, then I model the skill step-by-step out loud so they can hear my thinking. After that, we practice together before they try it independently. I pay attention to patterns in mistakes and adjust as we go.
What sets me apart is that I really focus on making sure students understand what they’re doing and feel confident doing it. My background in psychology helps me meet students where they are and support different learning needs.
My lessons are for elementary students, especially upper elementary, mainly in math and science. I currently teach 5th grade in Virginia and work with a range of learners.
