About Tate
I’m a guitar tutor with 4 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in World Music, with a focus on Guitar Traditions. My background blends deep academic study with hands-on experience in high-energy styles like metal, shred, and progressive rock. I love helping both young learners and adult players unlock their potential and discover what their fingers—and ears—can truly do. My lessons are designed to build blistering speed, accuracy, and stage-ready confidence. Whether it’s alternate picking, sweep picking, or tapping, I break down advanced techniques into clear, achievable steps. I also help students with tone shaping, gear selection, and developing a strong stage presence. I enjoy working with players who are hungry to learn fast and play loud—but with control and precision. Alongside technique, I encourage creativity and individuality. My goal is to help each student develop their own voice while mastering the tools of the genre. If you’re ready to dive deep and level up your playing, I’m here to guide every note of the way

My guitar teaching approach blends creative expression with technical mastery, especially for students interested in lead playing. I focus on building strong soloing skills through hands-on practice and clear guidance. Each lesson is tailored to your musical style, goals, and experience level.
We dive deep into lead guitar techniques like phrasing, bends, vibrato, and tone control. I also teach how to develop improvisation skills, helping you play freely over different chord progressions. Lessons include exercises for blues and rock soloing, as well as melodic shaping for jazz and expressive styles.
I guide students in finding their own soloing voice, combining ear training, scale knowledge, and creative risk-taking. You’ll learn to craft solos that sound musical, not just technical. We also cover gear tips and tone shaping, so your sound matches your vision.
My teaching supports students who want to push boundaries and play with attitude, clarity, and style. Whether you're jamming or composing your own leads, I’ll help you bring your ideas to life. Let’s get you shredding with confidence and expression.
