About Sam
Hey there! I'm a singer-songwriter musician, with over 10 years of experience, and have written and recorded hundreds of songs. I've made songs in a variety of genres (rock, alternative, indie, soul, rap, etc.). I really enjoy artists like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Wilco, Elliot Smith, Vic Chesnutt, and Nick Drake. Other than music, I also like spending time with my wife, daughter, and cat. I currently am living with them in Thailand, though I'm originally from California.

Whether you are a complete beginner or a guitarist who already has a solid foundation, with my knowledge and experience I believe I can help you get better at guitar. I am open to teaching everyone and anyone no matter your age or skill level.
This is what a typical lesson can look like:
5 minutes - Warm Up Jam (we'll play together to get warmed up)
Ex. You play a chord progression, and I will solo over it and vice versa
25 minutes - Exercises (we can use a guitar book and go through exercises that will help you improve your skills)
Ex. You will practice hammer-ons and pull-offs in the A minor pentatonic scale, and I will show you how it's done and help you
25 minutes - Learn a song (Either I can bring you a song I think would be good to learn or you can bring a song you really want to learn, and I will help you master that song)
Ex. You tell me you want to learn Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash, so I get the guitar tab, and we go through it together and I help you to master it
5 minutes - Cool Down Jam (To end the class we will jam with each other and improvise; this is a good time to practice what you learned throughout the class)
Ex. I'll play some chords in the key of A minor and you solo over it, utilizing the hammer-ons and pull-offs you were practicing earlier in the class, and also just have fun playing guitar
This is not a strict lesson structure. If you would like to extend the jam portion of the lesson or decrease the exercise section, just let me know. But, I will always tell you what I think is best for your guitar playing. Additionally, not every class will be exactly the same, perhaps one day if you are interested, we will focus only on writing your own song.
