For me to connect with my students, it is important that I am as open with them as I can be, while still retaining the teacher persona. I believe that being honest with them promotes a trusting relationship where they feel comfortable talking to me about the issues they are having in regards to the classroom.

Over the past school year, I’ve started developing my own idea of what it means to be a teacher, and how I can be the best teacher to the students who walk into my classroom at the beginning of each semester. As a new teacher, who isn’t much older than some of her students, being able to relate to them on a personal level becomes an important part of my pedagogy.
