About Johanna
Hi, I'm Johanna! I strive to inspire confidence in every student I work with by creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I understand that many students may feel unsure about their abilities in reading or math, so I focus on building their confidence step by step and celebrating their progress along the way.
I establish my legitimacy through my experience working with children, my strong academic interests in education, and my acceptance to Boston University, where I will study Youth Development and Justice. My background reflects both my commitment to learning and my passion for helping others succeed.
I approach tutoring with professionalism by being reliable, prepared, and attentive to each student’s individual needs. I focus on using teaching methods that worked well for me when I was younger, especially making learning feel approachable, engaging, and not overwhelming. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, so I prioritize patience, encouragement, and adapting my approach to each child’s needs. For reading, I work on building comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence through interactive activities and guided practice. For math, I break problems down step-by-step and use real-life examples to make concepts easier to understand.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of what the student already knows, followed by introducing or practicing a specific skill. I include hands-on activities, guided practice, and time for the student to try problems independently while I support them. I always end with a short recap or fun activity to reinforce what they learned and help build confidence.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my strong interest in working with children and education, as well as my ability to connect with younger students. I aim to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I also focus on building not just academic skills, but confidence and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
My lessons are designed for elementary school students (Kindergarten through 6th grade) who need support in reading and math, whether they are catching up, keeping up, or looking to get ahead. I tailor each session to fit the student’s level and learning style.
