About Josh
Initially a self-taught electric and acoustic guitarist, I have attended the following schools to deepen my understanding of music: Collin College, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and Southern Methodist University. The genres of music I have devoted my time to range from jazz, blues, rock, metal, and classical, and I incorporate all of these styles into my teaching.
During my time in the university system, numerous scholarships and grants were awarded to me. Similarly, I have performed in masterclasses conducted by internationally renowned artists like Jason Vieaux, Berta Rojas, Ricardo Cobo, Gabriel Bianco, Bill Kanengiser, and David Russell (to name a few).
As far as my credentials are concerned, I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Music Degree (2013). From Southern Methodist University, I earned a Master of Music Degree (2016) and a Performers Diploma (2019). All of these degrees were in Classical Guitar Performance.
However, my most recent credential was not in the music profession. A teacher once said to me, “Your guitar is not your instrument; your body is your instrument.” These words have never left me, which is why in December 2022, I became a certified kettlebell instructor (SFG I) through StrongFirst. Whether the goal is improve speed, stamina, or strength, understanding how to train for these specific athletic adaptations is irreplaceable for a musician that desires to achieve their potential.

I own a teaching studio in Farmers Branch, and I have openings in my schedule for enrollment. We can have our lessons virtually, at your home, or at my studio.
I have been teaching since 2009, my goal is to create an environment for students that showcases the fun of playing music. Our lessons start with you learning the music you love. We don't start with a method book. We start with the music you love, and we go from there.
I have made over 100 transcriptions for my student that have been customized to address their needs at the time. Whether I am teaching you and/or your kids, my lessons are designed to ensure success and fun with music.
