About Charles
I am a musician, regularly performing in many styles of music who is also a highly experienced music teacher, both as a one-on-one tutor and a classroom teacher. I have been teaching guitar, for 21 years and bass guitar and upright bass for 14 years and can teach in pretty much any regular style. My specialisms (they are quite varied!) include funk and soul, jazz, blues, country folk and classical. I also like to emphasise practical use of music theory in my lessons, though I can also teach it academically if you specifically want to learn theory for an exam.

I put a great deal of emphasis on understanding music, and as such I try to integrate the learning of technique, repertoire, theory and ear training, rather than treating them as separate subjects. I have extensively studied modern research cognitive research and neuroscience and use this knowledge to make learning more efficient and effective.
