About Henry
I have coached players of all levels, from complete beginners to high-performance juniors and internationally-ranked players competing on the professional circuit.
As a player, I was the three-time county champion of Sussex as a junior and then competed on the National and International professional tours at Open level, achieving an LTA rating of 1.2 (old system), WTN of 5.1 and UTR of 12.7.
During my time as an adult competitive player, I reconstructed each of my major strokes (serve, forehand and backhand) from scratch through my own research on technique and biomechanics, worked with some of the top coaches in the world, and rigorously studied other areas of the game such as sports psychology, learning theory and the neuroscience of skill-development. The combination of this body of knowledge with thousands of hours of coaching experience has given me both a unique understanding of the game of tennis and ability to communicate this knowledge as a rigorous system which transforms both my students' understanding of tennis and level of play.
Outside tennis, my other interests are philosophy (in which I hold a Master's degree), psychology, literature, film, music and football, and alongside coaching I also work as a private tutor teaching English as a school subject to children between the ages of 8 and 13.

General overview:
Over thousands of hours of playing, coaching and studying both tennis and other disciplines, I have developed a distinctive approach to teaching tennis based on synthesising concepts and techniques that have never before - to my knowledge - been programmatically combined and applied to the teaching of the game.
The methodology is based on systematically breaking down all the key technical, physical and mental skills required for high-level tennis performance into micro 'components' (ie the individual parts of the overall skills), based on what the laws of physics, physiology and psychology (to the extent of my understanding of them) dictate is required to play tennis well.
My lessons transmit this body of knowledge as an integrated and dynamic process which combines theoretical explanations with concrete exercises, all tailored to the specific individual needs and development stage of the student I am working with.
Your lesson:
Since the foundation of enjoying tennis is having high-quality groundstrokes, the lessons always start with work on these, except for if your specific needs require prioritising another shot.
I will first assess your groundstrokes before then developing them through the following stages:
Stage 1: any shadowing or drop-feed work necessary to establish your basic technical foundation to the point of being comfortable with grip, ready position, split-step, unit turn, racket drop and contact point.
Stage 2: balls fed from the other side of the net, in order to integrate this basic technical foundation with the more advanced fundamentals of: further footwork components, anticipation of the ball, rhythm and timing of the swing, control of the racket face and extension through contact.
Stage 3: rally-based training which develops the ability to apply the fundamentals learnt in stages 1 and 2 in a live situation, by testing the ability to anticipate and control the ball in the full length of the court.
Stage 4: point-based scenarios and any additional concepts regarding shot-selection, strategy and footwork required to navigate these, as well as work on serves and volleys.
We will move through the stages according to your level at the start of the session and rate of progress, and revert to and from prior stages as and when necessary.
At the end of the lessons I will provide you with a summary outlining what I recommend for the next stages of your development, including any suggested practice exercises and materials such as notes, videos and articles that are relevant for your progress.
Regarding availability, I am available for lessons in Central and West London on Thursdays and weekends.

Perfect! As an intermediate level player myself, in just a few sessions, Henry has helped me improve drastically my strokes. He is a very technical coach that can directly point out what you are doing wrong and can direct you in the right way with very clear and concise explanations. highly recommended!
Perfect! Definitely could recommend sessions with Henry: very patient with beginners, nice positive attitude, easy explanations :)
Perfect! Henry is encouraging and efficient with giving enough content to challenge yet not overload with too much all at once

Henry is a proper tennis players coach who really puts in the effort to make a set plan of action. I am a decent player who was very keen to move up a level and Henry really broke down the absolute basics and put in more effort than any other coach who I've hit with has done. Couldn't recommend him more in a world of so many lazy hitting coaches Henry absolutely stands alone in his care, determination and desire to make his clients improve. 5*
Henry has been coaching me for the last year and a half and I cannot speak highly enough of him. I have had tennis lessons all my life and the difference Henry has made in such a short space of time is remarkable. Thinks about the game in a new way and has excellent communication skills. Also a lovely guy!
Henry combines passion, expertise, and personalized approach to make every session both challenging and enjoyable. I highly recommend Henry for players of all levels!
Henry is a fantastic coach. I have been hitting with him once a week for the last year or so. I have probably had a dozen coaches over the years, and I have honestly seen the most benefit over my time with Henry. He is a detail oriented coach, and takes a lot of time to break things down in your ground strokes in order to help you improve each aspect of it which I really appreciate. He makes the coaching time fun and engaging and I look forward to our sessions each week.
Henry is incredibly patient and has a real talent for identifying the root causes behind mistakes. He doesn’t just correct errors—he pinpoints small tweaks that unlock a whole new level of performance. His explanations are always clear, and the drills he introduces are spot-on and effective. With a deep understanding of the game and an ability to make things simple, he’s by far the best coach I’ve had.
Henry is a very good tennis tutor with great knowledge of proper techniques and strategies. He is very helpful, methodical and professional and an all round nice guy! I have been training with him once a week for several months and have found him very helpful in improving my tennis and building a solid foundation. I strongly recommend him to anyone, both beginners and more advanced players.
Henry is highly experienced and great at breaking down the key concepts and movements of tennis. I started with Henry as a complete beginner, and he gradually taught me the various components that make up great forehand/backhand strokes. This made each step of the journey accessible while also making sure I learn how to play correctly. Beyond just learning how to play I feel I have a much better understanding of why each element matters, allowing me to break down and analyze my own performance.
Henry is a great guy and very patient, while also providing regular feedback and corrections/tips. Overall a great coach for both beginners and experienced players, and one I’ve recommended to multiple friends.Henry is an exceptional tennis coach who has significantly improved my forehand technique. Through his expert guidance, I've been able to overhaul my forearm motion, resulting in increased racquet head speed, enhanced control, and more topspin. The improvements in my game are tangible and have boosted my confidence on the court.
What sets Henry apart as an instructor is his ability to communicate complex techniques using crisp, clear examples. His attention to detail is impressive, ensuring that every aspect of the stroke is refined for optimal performance. Henry's teaching style is both effective and engaging, making each lesson not only productive but also enjoyable. I highly recommend Henry to any player looking to elevate their tennis game.Henry is brilliant. Really friendly and helpful. Within 10 mins of my first lesson I was playing better, having fun and learning. Henry puts you at ease and talks you through the move, using videos to help illustrate what he means which is a great way to aid learning!
Henry has a deep understanding of the technical building blocks of the game and a great ability to isolate certain aspects (eg footwork, timing, etc) in training to improve overall outcomes. I would highly recommend him for improvements at all levels. Seb
Henry thought me tennis fundamental very well and made sure to cover every little detail and made me repeat until it became second nature.. very kind and an amazing coach
Henry has been an immense help to since the first lesson. He was quick to spot my mistakes, and quickly picked the drills that really helped. He also went above and beyond after lessons in providing additional material and notes to help the process
Henry has a nice personality, is highly reliable and is a talented coach. He is calm, has a systematic approach to the lessons and establishes easily a raport to the student. I highly reccomend him, my sons and I are making good progress with him.
Henry is a great tennis coach! I learned more with Henry in one day than I have learned in months of lessons elsewhere. I highly recommend him.
Henry is a great teacher - relaxed and approachable with great technical knowledge of all the tennis shots. Always punctual and easy to arrange lessons with. Would recommend
I have improved a lot since I have trained with Henry for 2 months. He would correct my tiniest mistakes in posture and do a lot of drills in every class.
Great knowledge, knows what’s he is doing. Very professional and was able to identify flaws in my serve straight away and suggest steps for improvement. Impressed so money well spent
Henry is a very talented tennis instructor. I have been working with him for just over a month, starting from a very basic level, and I have made progress beyond my expectations.
Henry has a strong grasp of the fundamental principles of proper tennis technique and tailors each lesson thoughtfully to ensure you are learning correctly. He’s also a pleasure to train with.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player aiming to perfect your form, he is an excellent choice. I highly recommend him!I am a PT, a coach myself, so I am fast and strong, and I needed a coach who realised my potential and my desire to take my game to a very high level. I was new to the game, but not to sports, and certainly not to the art of coaching.
I had tried a few tennis coaches. Some were too casual to even show up at the venue, one was too old to be useful for me, and other was a jerk who couldn't even return my shots. My first tennis coach, as I would realise after training with Henry, was okay.
Henry is different. I've trained with him for five months now. He is punctual, smart, and keen to teach. His own game of tennis as well as his tennis IQ is high level. I am satisfied with my progress, and my choice of a good coach.Henry is a very patient tennis coach with good techniques. Recommend to students in all levels.
Henry is a fantastic tennis coach. Been training with him for few months and my tennis is completely transformed. Highly recommend !
Henry is a wonderful coach. I am from NY and took 10 lessons with Henry while visiting here. I had been learning tennis for 1.5 years and got bottlrnecked and was struggling with forehand consistency and footwork. Henry's training basically helped me rebuild my forehand and footwork from ground up again. That was tremendously helpful and have a feeling of what to focus and improve on next. I wish I could have time to take more lessons.
Have been training w Henry for 3 months now. He is very knowledgeable, not just feeds you the balls, but explains the physics behind movements. Improving and adding elements bit by bit.
Reliable time-wise. I’m very happy with how our sessions go and will continue to train with HenryI've been training with Henry for 10 weeks now, and I'm very happy with the level of support and knowledge that he's provided me so far.
He's taken me as a total beginner and I can see improvements day-to-day.
His feedback is precise, timely and simple to understand. If you want a teacher that can tell you exactly what you need to improve, what you are doing well, and how to get from one to the other, Henry is your guy!Henry has been coaching me for the past 10 or so months. He is structured, breaks down the technique into parts to focus and improve individual bits and tailors his approach to your needs. I am amazed how much I improved. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to improve their game
Henry is both an exceptional player and an exceptional coach. A rare combination. So whatever your level he can help your game improve. Having worked with many coaches over the years he has undoubtedly helped me the most.
Henry is a well trusted tennis coach. I have been having his coaching since March this year. Henry gave a lot of useful advices in correcting my forehand technique. He also bring my tennis game to another level by strengthening my ability to play inside-out. One thing I like about Henry’s coaching is that he would write me coaching notes and send me useful video at times that would be very helpful in my practice. Last but not least , he displays very good professionalism by being very responsive in communication. We schedule tennis session 1-2 weeks ahead which is very helpful to my busy schedule.
Have been having lessons with Henry for the past year - great coach (and bloke), high recommended !
Really great tennis coach - a very good player, which helps, while also being very patient and an all round nice guy. Would highly recommend.
Great tennis coach - really breaks down your game into component parts and focuses on improving areas piece by piece. Strongly recommend.
Henry is a very patient and analytical coach. He notices every detail and tailors his approach to try and fix any incorrect movements or habits.
Very experienced coach and always willing to share feedback and extra material that could help. I would highly recommend using Henry to improve your all round tennis game!Highly recommend Henry as a tennis teacher - patient, knowledgeable about the game, provides constant constructive feedback and very personable. His small pointers really make a big difference. His sessions are always fun and efficient and I’ve seen a big improvement in such a short space of time.
If you REALLY want to make the right improvements and get ahead of everyone else, rather than just ‘how good can I get by the end of this week?’, then Henry is your man. That’s how I see it
Essentially trained with him for a year now. No intention to stop..
Very efficient tennis classes, Henry is a very good teacher! He provides constant feedback on how to improve my technique and detect areas of improvement very well. I improved my level a lot only in few hours. Henry sets ambitious targets which are in line with my objectives.
A very patient and highly effective teacher. I can’t recommend Henry enough. In a few short lessons he’s changed my game and given me a renewed confidence to get back to playing .
Neil RankinHenry is one of the best tennis coaches I’ve worked with. He is a reliable and patient coach and his clear technical instructions help me improve my skills a lot.
I’ve been having lessons for several months and I can confidently say that you will learn so much in EVERY lesson. Highly recommend him!Henry is professional and clearly extremely experienced and knowledgable. I’ve had coaches before but none have been as precise and detailed about technique, or as focused on how I can personally improve. I always feel that I improve after each lesson. He’s also a really nice guy and it’s great to have a coach I get along with. Can’t recommend him enough!
I had a brilliant tennis coaching experience with Henry. He was clearly very experienced and gave succinct really easy to follow advice. He changed my serve for the better within just one lesson! Would highly recommend
Henry's love for the game is infectious. He has been involved with my tennis career since 2016, helping me to achieve an ATP world ranking. Having played full time himself (competing internationally), he has the ability to analyse the game incredibly well.
He continues to inspire and motivate me today in the way he dedicates his own time to help and support me both in practice and on the road at tournaments. As a coach, Henry prioritises key areas of your game to develop and then sets clear goals to help you achieve them. I would highly recommend getting in touch with Henry if you are committed to improving your tennis. We would recommend Henry without hesitation. Henry puts his students at ease. He explains things clearly and his lessons are engaging and enjoyable. Henry is reliable, punctual and always willing to give time outside the lessons to give feedback and discuss progress.
A friend bought me three sessions with Henry as a gift, and I play to continue.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I was blown away by the quality of his instruction. I was a decent player to begin with (I played at school and university) but, from the first session, my game really transformed. Within 5 mins of rallying, Henry was able to dissect my game and give me actionable advice on how to take it to the next level and beyond. I’ve never improved so much over the course of each hour ever before with a coach.
Henry personifies the immense value that a truly excellent coach brings. I really can’t recommend him highly enough.I have been fortunate enough to receive tennis coaching from Henry for nearly two years now and I believe I am one of his longest-benefitting students! As a kid I was a keen player of racket sports – especially tennis – but more recently this fell by the wayside. A couple of years ago I decided to start playing and unsurprisingly I was a shadow of the player I once was. Henry methodically and patiently addressed the core parts of game – especially in my case my forehand motion and movement behind the base line – and within the first eight weeks my playing was transformed. From this point on, thanks to Henry’s exceptionally analytic approach combined with his ability to articulate so clearly how to put something into practice, I continued to develop further and now all these months on I am the best player I have ever been. Most importantly, I really enjoy the sessions and have no intention of stopping! I wholeheartedly recommend Henry to anyone looking to improve their game, at whatever level.
I have had lessons from Henry for a couple of months now. He is very knowledgeable on technique and can apply this effectively to help my form. He gives good feedback and I can see my improvement in a short amount of time. Reliable and engaging - couldn’t recommend him more.
Henry is highly recommended as a tennis coach. I’ve been working with him for a year. He’s improved my game in a way it’s simpler and more efficient. I’m winning more games, and sets. He thinks deeply and in new ways about the science of the sport. He uses this knowledge, his own experience, and his observations to quietly coach, interviewing only where its necessary. Highly recommended - give him a go.
Very impressed by Henry’s tennis coaching. He has has a very thoughtful and tailored approach while still being very knowledgeable about fundamentals. Strongly recommend
Henry has been nothing less than an exemplar tennis coach. The insights he has into the game are second to none and Henry has truly helped me improve my skill set, whilst enjoying the process too. It is clear he is an exceptional tennis player and from my experience is devoted to his students - making him an outstanding coach. I cannot recommend him highly enough and wish I was introduced to his coaching at an earlier time in my life.
I have been working with Henry c. twice per week in the last two years, and he has helped me to significantly improve my game. When I started playing with Henry, I had not played tennis for very long (c. 12 months with 8 different coaches on a weekly basis). Only c. 24 months into playing with Henry, I am now competing in local tournaments. He has taught me everything from fundamental technique to fine adjustments, as well as movement, placement, strategy and even mentality. By far the best out of all the coaches I have played with.
Henry was introduced to my via a friend who competed in tennis at a professional level a couple of years ago. I had a summers worth of lessons with him before i moved abroad. But even now, everytime I’m in town, I get lessons booked in with henry.
I’ve worked with a couple of coaches so I feel confident in saying what sets Henry apart from others - his results. I think it’s clear he has a fantastic understanding of the game of tennis and so when you’re shot needs improving you can trust what he’s saying you should do. It’s a great feeling having a lesson with Henry.
Furthermore he has a lot to offer on the mental approach, an ability to help your game when you’re on the move (I’ve recorded my serve to send into him for analysis whilst I’ve been abroad) and is himself a really nice chap to spend your lesson with.
Highly recommended.
Piers QuinnHenry is very dedicated, highly detail orientated and extremely patient. He has a clear manner of explaining and is very engaging. My sessions with Henry are always a pleasure.
Henry is a great tennis instructor. He is very meticulous and gives you lots of encouragement. I’m only two lessons I feel like I made real progress.
Henry really knows how to engage his students in learning how to play tennis. You will not find a more positive, patient, and motivating tennis instructor than Coach PK!
Besides being very passionate about the game, Henry has an in-depth knowledge of technique would be a great option for player looking to rebuild or improve their strokes
