I have been an English teacher for sixteen years. I started in Spain, then moved to South Korea and since returning to Edinburgh in Scotland in 2013, I have been teaching at the University of Edinburgh. As such, I have helped many students from a wide range of academic and educational backgrounds and first languages. This is one of the great pleasures of my work!
When we first meet, I will conduct a full needs analysis for our lessons and we will plan them together, making sure that they are what you want. I am also highly flexible and adaptable, so can change direction or switch methodology whenever needed. These lessons are about you and your learning, and I am fully dedicated to that.

I have known Kathryn for many years. I highly recommend her for her ability to connect with her students.
Whilst we worked together in an English Academy, she showed excellent communication skills and a love for the English language. She uses this to her advantage by encouraging her students to think about English using real world examples. Her dedication to the students is reflected by her popularity among them.
She is not only the best English teacher I have ever worked with but also a fantastic person.
I have been teaching with Kathryn since 2013. In addition to working alongside her in a variety of courses, we have been partners in peer observation projects, demonstrating her commitment to quality teaching. As I have observed, Kathryn is a knowledgeable, considerate and encouraging teacher with a bank of skills to implement as appropriate for each student. I have no hesitation in recommending her as an extremely trustworthy tutor.
I am Kathryn's Course Organiser at the University of Edinburgh. We have taught together on a number of courses and I have observed her in action. She is a talented, hard-working tutor, who favours an interactive, dialogic approach with her students. She is highly experienced, extremely knowledgeable and trained in the latest pedagogical techniques and methodologies. Drawing on her wide knowledge of available online websites and applications, as well as suitable teaching courses and reliable publications in the field, she produces attractive, user-friendly materials and gives clear and careful explanations. She usually conducts a careful needs analysis before deciding, in consultation with her students, on the most appropriate help to give them; unsurprisingly, her students are overwhelmingly positive in their feedback. Kathryn is a tutor who encourages, motivates and engages her students in their learning, to help them achieve their full potential.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be taught and guided by Kathryn during my international foundation course at Edinburgh University. She cares about her student academic success and emotional wellbeing. I am not a native English speaker, and although I could speak fluently, my academic writing was very weak. The way Kathryn structured her course provided me with skills that instantly made me more confident to write, and once you have the confidence to put pen to paper, she’ll help you develop and structure your arguments.
After taking the English writing course I can write essays with no grammatical errors, and with a well-structured paragraph. If the learning process starts getting too overwhelming trust me when I say Kathryn will support you through it.
Kathryn was my university course tutor and is highly specialised. She is a brilliant teacher, but more like a friend to me. As a non-native English speaker, she has assisted me a lot in my writing. She is the most extraordinary teacher I have had so far in my schooling. She often answers my questions in detail and gives me lots of stimulating thoughts that I like. This makes my friend envious. Her targeted comments have served me well in other courses. Her classes are my favourite and sorely missed. Although I don't have her classes now, she is the first person I turn to when I have a question and she is still as enthusiastic and patient as ever! So if you are in doubt, don't worry, she will explain to you with the utmost patience until you understand.
