About Basil
I am a History MA student at Cambridge and have previously achieved a double first degree from Oxford.
I have been tutoring for three years now in both English (up to GCSE level) and History (up to A-Level and including Oxbridge entrance exams).
Passed students of mine have achieved A*s in the GCSE subjects I have tutored them in and I have helped my A-Level students secure their first choice offers at a range of universities, from Reading to Oxford.

I mostly tutor for GCSE and A-Level students, though I am also happy to tutor Key Stage 3 students too.
I focus my lessons on helping students improve their essay writing and skills of textual analysis, which are key to succeeding in both History and English at all levels.
I aim to do this both by looking at students work and setting them practice essays, but also through dialogue and working through essay plans and discussing difficult content with them. As far as possible, I am committed to getting students to actively participate in my lessons, rather than simply talking at them.
