About Matthew
My name is Matthew McGivern and I'm a 25-year-old professional Actor. I grew up in a small village in Lancashire and have pursued a career as an Actor since childhood.
I fell in love with Acting through taking part in local amateur dramatics groups, as well as having multiple years of one-to-one LAMDA coaching. At 18 I successfully auditioned to become a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and spent 3 wonderful weeks in London on their Senior Intake Course. In that same year, I successfully competed against over 2000 applicants for a place on the BA Acting course at one of the top UK Drama Schools, The Guildford School of Acting (GSA), and trained there between 2018-2021.
Shortly after graduating with a 1st Class Degree and an Agent, I was lucky enough to earn myself a role on Channel 4's flagship soap, Hollyoaks, playing series regular Sam Chen-Williams in over 100 episodes between 2021-2023.
Upcoming work includes Voidance, a high-action sci-fi thriller directed by Marianna Dean, also starring James Cosmo.
I have always been keen to help other aspiring actors succeed in this tough and competitive industry. That's one of the reasons why I took up actor tuition. In the past 12 months I have taught workshops in Screen Acting and Character Development to the students at The Actor Training Academy in Preston, as well as working as an Assistant Director on their end of year play: The Real Estate, by Freddie Machin.
There’s no one-size-fits-all path to becoming an actor, but with drive, discipline, and resilience, you’re already setting yourself up for success. Each actor's journey is unique, but my job will be to help you refine and develop your skillset so that you can bridge the gap between where you are now and where you'd like to be with your career.
I like to work practically, giving the student the chance to put techniques and methods into practice during each session. Typically I cover Audition Technique, Building Character and Screen Acting, but can easily tailor sessions according to the student's needs.
Lessons can be either 30 minutes or 1hr.
Typically my lessons will be for any student 15+, but I'd be open to welcoming younger students upon request.
