About Helen
With over 30 years of teaching experience in the UK and New Zealand, I specialize in teaching French to primary-aged students (Years 1–8). I believe students learn best when their learning is meaningful and connected to real-life communication, when they can use French for a real purpose. I am passionate about sharing the rich language and culture of France. Having lived and worked in France for several years, including two years teaching English at the École Supérieure de Paris, I bring authentic experience and enthusiasm to my teaching. In 2017, I was awarded the New Zealand Ministry of Education Language Immersion Award, which allowed me to spend a month in a French primary school collaborating with teachers to further develop an enhanced framework for my own classroom in New Zealand. This partnership led to an ongoing exchange of ideas and correspondence between our students, enriching their real-world learning experience.

At the heart of my teaching is Fun and Achievable French! Qualified UK and NZ Primary French Teacher 30 years experience 45 mins for each lesson - twice a week (recommended) Age 3 to 13 years I believe language learning should be engaging, relevant, and confidence-building. My lessons are designed to promote active participation through games, songs, and creative, task-based activities that bring French language and culture to life. I help students understand how language works, that words and structures follow patterns and rules, so they can build a strong foundation for communication. Students are encouraged to set their own goals and celebrate their progress, developing both independence and a love of learning French. My aim is for every learner to feel successful and excited about using French in real, meaningful ways.
