About Kayla
Hi! My name is Kayla, and I have always been passionate about helping others learn. I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and am continuing my education as a Doctor of Physical Therapy student. My academic journey has required a strong foundation in mathematics, critical thinking, and problem-solving, skills that I now enjoy sharing with younger students.
Beyond academics, I understand that confidence plays a huge role in a student's success. I know how discouraging math can feel when concepts aren't explained in a way that makes sense. That's why I am committed to creating a supportive and patient learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress.
As someone who has balanced rigorous coursework, leadership roles, and mentoring opportunities, I understand the importance of organization, communication, and reliability. Parents can expect professionalism, consistent preparation, and a tutor who genuinely cares about each student's growth.
Whether your child is building foundational math skills in elementary school or working through middle school algebra, my goal is to help them gain not only stronger grades but also the confidence to approach future math challenges with a positive mindset.

Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to fit the student's individual learning style and pace. My goal is to help students understand the reasoning behind math concepts rather than simply memorizing formulas. When students understand the "why," they become more confident and independent problem-solvers.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material before introducing a new concept. I break problems into clear, manageable steps and use examples that relate to everyday life whenever possible. Throughout the lesson, I ask students to explain their thinking, complete guided practice, and then solve problems independently while I provide support and feedback. I finish each session by reviewing key concepts and identifying areas for continued practice.
I primarily tutor elementary math and middle school algebra. Whether a student needs homework help, extra practice, test preparation, or support catching up in class, I strive to create a positive, encouraging environment where questions are always welcome and mistakes are viewed as part of the learning process. My priority is for every student to leave each lesson with greater confidence and a stronger understanding than when they arrived.
