Instead of relying only on rereading and memorisation, I use methods based on how memory actually works. I help students build mental models, visualisation especially for physics and maths, create meaningful connections and cross sections between ideas especially for biology, retrieve information from memory, visualise difficult concepts, and understand the reasoning behind what they are learning. i.e. I incorporate Scientific Methods of Learning, based on research-based evidence you can bet on.
You must have noticed throughout years as a student is that many teachers explain a topic from the perspective of someone who already understands it.
That is completely natural. When you become very good at something, many small thinking steps become automatic. As a result, teachers sometimes explain the final idea without realising which part a beginner is struggling with.
For example, In Physics, when learning Speed and Velocity, the difficulty was never the definition. Anyone can memorise a definition. The real challenge was building a clear mental picture of what speed looks like and how velocity looks in the visualisation world.
Basically, if a tutor can give you a tour of what goes inside his/her mind when they think of the concept or idea, IF YOU COULD SEE WHAT THE TEACHER SEES, YOU COULD NAIL IT.
The one who is at the top of the classroom has a visualisation of the concepts like that suffice like a scientist. The one who is struggling is not incapable, but rather just a step away.
The good thing is, I am a Student, hence a recent learner and a top performer, i.e. I have battled tremendous points where a student gets stuck and self-developed multifold mental models to understand the topics.
For example, I have learnt not only multiplication as 3×4 =12 but rather I can see how the visualisation of 3+4 is different than that of 3×4 i.e. there is something called Dimensions Visualisation. But the bad part is, this is not taught in the school, because the purpose of school and the teachers is to just deliver the content and make you remember it for jobs, but not teach you in a way that you develop your own mental techniques like a scientist. We can't blame the school, they are doing what needs to attain a job a future. What we are doing is how to attain the capability to be the best and with minimal effort, So one has got time for Sports as well. I have been an Academic achiever and also 2 times National level sports player.
These are many things I would teach to do differently. Example.
In Biology. Many students think their problem is memorisation. In reality, the problem is often that the information has no structure in their mind leading to Fast forgetting. They are trying to remember isolated facts instead of understanding how the ideas connect together. Human brain does not understand alphabets and sentences as relevant enough to remember. You remember the first Puppy you hooded once but you don't remember the Photosynthesis equation even if you saw it multiple times. It's not your fault, We are just not learning the way Human brains are meant to learn.
Research says we forget 50% of newly learnt information within 24 hours. So Are we just studying without taking into account of how our brain learns.

I started exploring cognitive psychology, memory, and the science of how the brain learns. I wanted to understand why some concepts stay with us for years while others disappear after an exam.

What I discovered changed the way I study and teach:
This means that when a student says, "I keep forgetting Biology," I don't just tell them to revise more. I help them understand why they are forgetting and what to do differently.

When a student says, "Physics feels confusing," I don't immediately repeat the definition. I first find the missing mental picture that is preventing understanding.

As a recent student, I still remember those hidden points of confusion because I faced them myself. The difference is that I spent years figuring out how to overcome them efficiently.

So Instead of studying how everyone studied, let's learn The way Human brain learns best. Using Evidence-based Research and techniques.
