About Louis
I am a first-year Mechanical Engineer at Imperial College London.
Beforehand, I took a year out to intern as a software developer at Santander Technology in Milton Keynes. I initially kept to basic python programming but eventually wrote a full stack app, simple APIs in javascript and incorporated git, test-driven-development and other agile methods into my daily practise.
I had taught myself Python before joining Santander using Codecademy to gain my own intuition of how the code will 'behave', however it was through the exercises set at Santander did I really develop my understanding.
In my first year, I spent a lot of time explaining the python language to friends on my course, and scored the third highest mark on the end of year computing exam.
I have written all the Arduino scripts in C for the Imperial SEM - Imperial's hydrogen-fuel-cell race car. These were mainly focused on providing telemetry for the car, as well as an emergency system in case of hydrogen leak or a crash.
Over the summer, I have written the scripts for a musical instrument using Arduinos that takes a singer's voice via a microphone, determines the pitch of the voice and tunes it to the notes played on a keyboard connected via MIDI. This is currently a work in progress, however the code is finished and now expected to be built by the end of August.

I believe that computing should be taught by example - explaining how each component works and why it is required. If you have a project you would like to do, I will help point you in the right direction for what you want to achieve.
If you are just getting started, I believe the best way to learn is by teaching yourself the basics so you develop your own intuition. However, I can recommend some websites to use, help fix any problems you cannot solve after trying and even explain why the code needs to be written in a specific way.
I will also help you ensure the code is readable, follows best practises for name declarations and commenting. I can also help make your code public using GitHub.
