1. My Teaching Techniques & Methodology
My method is based on a communicative and cultural approach. I believe that learning Spanish isn't just about memorizing verb conjugations; it's about understanding the soul, the culture, and the incredible diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Cultural & Linguistic Immersion: You won't just learn from a textbook. I bring the real world into our classes. We'll use music from artists like Bad Bunny or Rosalía, watch clips from series like *La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), and read articles from Spanish and Latin American newspapers to make the language come alive.
- Focus on "Neutral" Spanish & Dialectal Variety: As a native speaker, I'm fully aware of the differences between Spanish from Spain and from Latin America. I adapt to your goal. If you want to sound Mexican, I'll teach you the modismos (slang). If you're moving to Argentina, we'll dive into voseo.
- The Natural Approach: I prioritize "comprehensible input." I speak in Spanish from day one, adjusting my speed and vocabulary to your level. The goal is to get your ear used to the real sound of the language, not a sanitized, slow version of it.
- Grammar in Context: Instead of giving you long, intimidating lists of conjugations, we introduce grammar points when you actually need them to communicate. For example, we'll tackle the dreaded subjunctive mood because you need it to express your opinions or wishes, not just because it's next in the book.
- Warm Correction: I correct your errors in a constructive way, but I always let you finish your thoughts. I see mistakes as stepping stones. If I notice a recurring error, we'll pause and work on it together.
2. Sample Lesson Plan (Intermediate B1 Level - 60 minutes)
Lesson Topic: "Expressing opinions and emotions (Introduction to the Subjunctive)"
- 5 mins - Warm-up:*Quick chat. How was your weekend? How are you feeling today? (Quick review of emotions vocab and past tenses).
- 10 mins - Cultural Hook: We listen to a short snippet of a song ("Vivir Mi Vida" by Marc Anthony). We talk about dreams. What does the singer want? (*Quiero vivir... = I want to live...).
- 15 mins - Language Analysis:
- On the digital whiteboard, we contrast two sentences: "Creo que es fácil" (I think it is easy - Indicative: certainty) vs. "Quiero que sea fácil" (I want it to be easy - Subjunctive: desire/influence).
- We work together to deduce the rule: after "Quiero que..." (I want that...), the verb changes.
- 20 mins - Speaking Practice:
- Role-play: I'm a life coach and you've come to me for advice. You have to use phrases like "Necesito que me ayudes con..." (I need you to help me with...), "Quiero que me digas..." (I want you to tell me...).
- Soft debate: We give opinions on everyday topics, consciously choosing between "Opino que..." (I think that... + Indicative) and "No me gusta que..." (I don't like that... + Subjunctive).
- 10 mins - Feedback & Wrap-up: Review of the new structures. I share the lyrics to the song as optional homework and recommend a short Spanish series to watch during the week.
3. My Unique Qualities as a Teacher
- Native Speaker Insight:I don't just speak the language; I live it. I can explain the "why" behind the words—why we say things a certain way—and teach you the street slang, jokes, and double meanings that you won't find in a textbook.
- Patience & Adaptable Pace: I know Spanish verb conjugation can be overwhelming. I never move on to the next topic until I'm sure you've got a handle on the current one. I'm happy to explain things a hundred different ways until it clicks.
- Dynamic & Fun Classes: I believe you learn better when you're relaxed and having fun. If grammar gets too heavy, we stop and play a game. We might play a Spanish-language trivia game, "cook" a Hispanic recipe together online, or debate the latest episode of a show.
- Pronunciation Coach: As a native, I have a trained ear. I love helping you lose a strong foreign accent. I give you practical tips to sound more natural, like mastering the intonation of questions or learning to roll your 'r's.
