About Elizabeth
I went to Brown for computer science and English, and I scored a 35 on the ACT with 36s in English and Reading. My real love is modernist literature and literary theory, which sounds intimidating from the outside and is really just a set of tools for reading closely.
I have also worked as a software engineer, a job that is mostly about boiling something complicated down until another person can hold it in their head. That is the skill I bring to tutoring. I ask a lot of questions instead of lecturing, because the place a student gets stuck is usually one step earlier than where the wrong answer showed up.

I studied English at Brown and scored 36s on the English and Reading sections of the ACT. My lessons focus on how to build an argument, structure a paragraph, and revise your own work instead of relying on someone else to fix it. A typical session starts with reading a passage or your draft together, then we identify what is working and rebuild the parts that are not. I work with high school and college students on essays, reading comprehension, and personal statements for college applications.
