About Gonzalo

I'm a saxophonist, composer, and educator with over 20 years of experience performing and teaching jazz. I studied with Dave Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Seamus Blake, George Garzone, Fred Hersch, and David Kikoski — and I bring that lineage directly into my teaching.
I work with intermediate and advanced saxophone students who want to go deeper into jazz improvisation, harmony, chord scales, bebop language, jazz standards, and musical interpretation. I also prepare students for conservatory auditions and entrance exams.
Lessons cover improvisation through scales, modes, and harmony; transcription of jazz masters; repertoire development; ear training; and sight-reading — always connected to real musical situations, not isolated exercises.
Technique, sound production, articulation, and rhythm are developed as tools to support musical flow and expression.
Classes are structured but flexible, fully adapted to each student's goals: jazz performance, conservatory preparation, or overall musical development. Available online worldwide.

About the lesson

I work mainly with intermediate and advanced saxophonists who already have some technical and reading background and want to go deeper into improvisation, interpretation and overall musical understanding.

Lessons focus on improvisation through scales, harmony, transcription and repertoire, always connected to real musical situations.

Gonzalo's response
Chris is a great student. He’s been mostly self-taught for about 15 years and came to me for guidance and structure in his tenor sax practice.
In just two lessons, he’s already made great progress. He’s positive, polite, and always punctual. I’m really looking forward to continuing our work together.

Perfect! I started training under Gonzalo after a 10 year break from saxophone playing. Our focus has been sound production and Jazz development. Gonzalo is an incredibly knowledgable and friendly instructor who brings a lot of enthusiasm and positivity to our lessons. As someone who has taught music before, I am very impressed with his natural teaching ability. His lessons are not formulaic but rather catered to your individual developmental needs. His approach inspires confidence yet I have felt a solid level challenge. I have progressed enormously since training with him and cannot recommend him enough as a saxophone instructor.

Gonzalo's response
Luke is a more advanced student who came to study jazz improvisation and develop his jazz sound on the tenor saxophone, coming from a primarily classical background. In just this first month of lessons, he has made significant progress, both musically and conceptually. He is highly motivated, open-minded, and brings a great attitude to every lesson. I’m very happy with his progress so far and look forward to continuing our work together.

Gonzalo's response
Michelle had played the saxophone for several years but had been away from the instrument for about 20 years. She contacted me to work on reading skills, sound, and interpretation as she returned to playing in an ensemble. After more than four lessons together, I’m very happy with her progress and with our work. She is punctual, friendly, and highly committed, and I truly enjoy our lessons and the material we cover.

Perfect! My experience with Gonzalo has been outstanding!! He is very professional, and *extremely* competent, in both his playing, and his teaching (and its also a bonus that he is a sweet guy! He didn't watch the clock at all, when giving his lesson). My son was super inspired after just 1 instruction! My son will definitely be coming back for more! Thank you Gonzalo!

Gonzalo's saxophone classes have been instrumental in refining my sound, technique, and reading skills. Through tailored exercises, my tone has improved, and my technique has become more precise. His emphasis on sight-reading has also been beneficial. I'd recommend Gonzalo for anyone seeking practical saxophone improvement
