Methodology

Enthusiastic and dedicated, I am confident that I can provide a valuable learning experience for children and young people of all abilities. During teaching practices, and part-time work I have developed leadership and communication skills that have developed my professional capability and teaching style; holding value to practical learning and strong- working relationships between staff members, children and parents.

Experience

I am a newly qualified teacher who studied a BEd Post-Primary Education with Maths and Science at Stranmillis University College, eager to provide a valuable teaching and learning experience to children and young people. I am currently working as a substitute teacher of Science and Maths in schools in the surrounding area but would love to teach on a more one to one basis with kids who need an extra bit of help!

January- February 2020 St. Ronan’s College Year 8-12
 5 days a week maternity cover teaching Science up to KS4.

August- December 2019 Lurgan Junior High School Year 8-10
 4 days a week maternity cover teaching KS3 mathematics.
 Responsible for planning and delivering maths lessons to six maths classes from Year 8 to Year 10.
 Form teacher to a Year 10 lower ability class.
 Carry out Maths Support lessons to lower ability students.
 Carry out extra duties such as detentions, bus duty and staff room duty.

 Responsible for planning and delivering maths and science lessons.

 Shadowed Numeracy, ESOL and art classes in the prison’s Learning and Skills centre.

 Observed and Developed different teaching strategies using minimum resources.
 Became familiar with the initial assessment process of prisoners and how to sort them into appropriate class levels based on their marks and previous schooling.

February – April 2018 Belfast Metropolitan College GCSE, A-level, Applied Science L2 & L3
 Taught students aged from 18 to 60 years old.
 Became familiar with the differences between teaching children and teaching adults including discipline techniques and encouraging independence.
 Developed an understanding of Applied Science courses and how to deliver these lessons and mark assignments/portfolio work.
 Learned how to lesson plan for classes lasting a maximum of 2.5 hours.
 Developed an understanding of pastoral care in further education settings.
November 2017 Cedar Lodge Special School Year 8- 10
 Catered for needs of children with Special Educational Needs.
 Spent time acting as a classroom assistant with a Year 8 class. Worked with pupils in groups or on a one-to-one basis.
 Delivered one to one support for children in the school’s ‘Skyline Centre’ while also making use of the sensory room and soft play areas.
 Became familiar with ‘Lego-based Therapy’ and was able to facilitate small groups with this.
February – April 2017 North Coast Integrated College Year 8-10
