About Afshin
I hold a Mathematics Degree (BSc) from King's College London university and have over 2+ years of experience in tutoring GCSE maths. I’m friendly and easy-going, passionate about academia and mathematics. I currently work as a data professional in the IT industry, using mathematical concepts and statistics in my day-to-day job! My favourite part of my job has been continuous learning and appreciation for tech tools such as Microsoft PowerBI, programming languages such as Python & SQL. I have over 2 years of experience as a private tutor and have taught 150+ hours worth of lessons. I cater to GCSE maths students as well as secondary school (year 7-year 11). I’m well-versed with the UK school curriculum, having completed it myself achieving A* in both GCSE (2016) and A-Level (2018). I cater to GCSE maths students as well as secondary school (year 7- year 11). I have a proven track record of helping students to exceed their predicted grade by at least two levels! I can also offer beginner programming lessons in Python to all ages however I cater specifically to under 18s. I conduct online sessions or face-to-face.

My approach to meeting a new student is to assess the academic level and understanding of the new student. I start with covering the theoretical content followed by examples for a topic with varying levels of difficulty, I then ask the student to complete practice questions and think out-loud. The practice question helps the student to apply and digest the content they have learnt independently. Additionally, asking the student to think aloud engages the student and helps me to gauge whether the student has truly understood the concept and is applying the correct logic. Furthermore, as an ongoing process I identify the learning style of each student as this helps me to tailor my teaching style accordingly. I use study materials including diagrams, examples, practice questions and exam-questions to support my lessons. I use tools such as Bitpaper and Google Jam, Google Classroom for online tutoring.
