About Marija
Having recently completed my PhD in molecular biology and genetics, I am looking to employ my knowledge and expertise to help students achieve their goals and, most importantly, to learn more and better themselves.
During my studies, I enjoyed tutoring students in biology, I have been a demonstrator in a range of lab practicals and I have mentored ten undergraduate/Master students whom I helped achieve First class marks in their final projects. I have also been involved in public engagement projects, disseminating the importance of science to the general public. In addition, I have acted as a Postgraduate Student Ambassador, showing prospective students what we do at the University, trying to help them make the right decision regarding future studies.
I am a very knowledgeable, dedicated, patient, enthusiastic, and engaging teacher. I tailor my approach to each and every student, depending on what they aim to achieve.
I always first determine the level a student is at and work with them step by step, designing lessons ideally suited to them. I use a variety of approaches – discussions, diagrams, and videos – until I make sure the student has a good understanding. Being enthusiastic and making the topic interesting is another key aspect, as that stimulates students to work more and read more about the topic on their own. I encourage student not to be afraid to ask questions so we can clear any doubts and issues they might have. I always combine lessons with homework that I design, which we would go over during the following session. To help assess our progress I would do regular revisions and create tests that I would mark, which altogether would help indicate what areas need further clarifying/work.
As I have a breadth of knowledge in biology, relevant qualifications and teaching experience, I would be ideally suited to help prospective tutees achieve great results in Biology and English.
