About Arunabha

Hi, I’m Arunabha— a McGill PhD candidate in Geography specializing in wetlands and biogeochemistry. I bring a researcher’s clarity and a tutor’s patience to every session, helping you build real understanding and steady confidence in Geography, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science.

My lessons are structured, friendly, and goal-oriented: we start by identifying exactly what you need (course content, assignments, exam prep, or fundamentals), then break topics into clear steps, and finish with guided practice so you can solve problems independently. I explain concepts in plain language, use diagrams and worked examples when helpful, and adapt the pace to how you learn best.

I’m comfortable teaching from high school and CEGEP up through undergraduate level, and I also support specialized graduate-level Earth science topics when you need deeper expertise. I take professionalism seriously—showing up prepared, communicating clearly, and creating a respectful space where questions are always welcome.

My teaching is concept-first and application-driven: we start by building intuition, then practice with problems, and finish by connecting each topic to real-world examples (Earth systems, climate, and geochemistry where helpful). I adjust pacing and depth to your goals—course support, exam preparation, assignments, or long-term skill-building—and I focus on helping you explain ideas clearly, not just memorize them.

Teaching methodology and techniques:
-Diagnostic start: quick check of your current level, course expectations, and learning style.
-Step-by-step scaffolding: break complex topics into simple building blocks, then recombine them.
-Active recall and guided practice: short questions throughout the lesson, then targeted problem sets.
-Error-based learning: we use mistakes as “signals” to fix gaps efficiently.
-Visual and quantitative tools: diagrams, concept maps, dimensional analysis, graphs, and worked examples.

Study strategy coaching: how to read scientific material, take effective notes, and prepare for exams.

Typical lesson plan (60–90 minutes):
-5–10 min: Goals for today + quick diagnostic questions.
-20–30 min: Core concept explanation with examples (interactive, you talk through reasoning).
-20–40 min: Practice together (problems, past exams, or assignment-style questions).
-5–10 min: Summary in your words + a short “takeaway sheet” of key formulas/ideas.
-After class (optional): a small practice set and a plan for the next session.

What sets me apart:
-Research-based perspective: I connect course concepts to how science is actually done (data, uncertainty, interpretation).
-Strong across disciplines: Geography, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science—useful for interdisciplinary courses.
-Clear communication: I focus on making difficult ideas feel simple and organized.
-Efficient and structured: you leave each session knowing exactly what to practice next.

Who lessons are for:
-High school and CEGEP: general science support, homework help, and exam preparation.
-Undergraduate: physical geography, environmental science, Earth science, geochemistry basics, intro stats/data work.
-Graduate (specialized Earth science): selected topics depending on your course needs (e.g., carbon cycling, biogeochemistry, stable isotopes, research-methods support, reading papers, and presenting results).
