About Reid

I am a drum tutor with 10 years of teaching experience. My journey with drums began when I was very young, and the instrument quickly became a central part of my life. Over the 10 years, I’ve played in school ensembles, community bands, studio sessions, live churches, and modern performance groups. These experiences have shaped a teaching style that is both structured and uplifting. My lessons focus on building strong fundamentals such as timing, stick technique, basic rudiments, coordination, and musical listening skills. I guide students through each concept step by step, ensuring that learning feels comfortable and encouraging. My approach includes practical exercises, song-based learning, and creative rhythmic activities designed to keep students engaged.

I also emphasise the importance of a consistent practice routine and help students develop healthy, effective habits. I believe that every student, no matter their age or starting point, has the ability to grow confidently with the right guidance. My environment is warm, patient, and supportive, allowing learners to explore new skills without hesitation. I work closely with students to set achievable goals and celebrate their progress along the way. Drumming is not just a musical pursuit but a way to build discipline, focus, and personal expression. I truly enjoy watching students develop their own style and sense of musical identity. It brings me great joy to share my passion for drumming and to support each student’s unique artistic journey.

My drum lessons are designed to help students achieve technical mastery while cultivating musicality and expressive performance skills. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s level, whether a beginner developing foundational skills, an intermediate drummer refining coordination, or an advanced player preparing for performance or studio work. Lessons cover timing, stick control, hand independence, limb coordination, groove, dynamics, rhythm reading, and phrasing. I integrate exercises, song practice, play-alongs, and improvisation to ensure practical, engaging learning. Students receive guidance on effective practice routines, milestone tracking, and goal-setting for steady progress. My teaching environment is supportive, encouraging, and motivating, giving learners confidence to experiment and develop their personal style.

Lessons emphasise listening skills, musical analysis, and practical application in solo and ensemble contexts. Students gradually develop technical precision, coordination, rhythmic independence, and expressive ability. Milestones are celebrated to reinforce progress and maintain motivation. Each session balances structured skill development with opportunities for creative exploration. Drumming becomes both a disciplined skill and a medium for personal expression. Students gain problem-solving, adaptability, and focus alongside musical growth. Lessons are productive, inspiring, and rewarding, leaving learners with new techniques and confidence. Students leave each lesson better prepared to perform across various musical genres. My goal is to cultivate confident, versatile, and expressive drummers capable of excelling in any setting.
