The only important factors in the classroom are the students and the curriculum. Teaching is all about finding the balance between keeping up with the cirriculum and increasing the liklihood of concept retention. People work at different speeds, and where possible it is of the utmost importance not to rush people, otherwise they might as well not be putting in the time at all. Connecting with what the students already know (especially what's untrue) and making a road map towards the desired level of understanding is the most surefire way to ensure success.
1st year undergrad studying Bsc Maths at the University of Exeter. Aspiring to be a teacher after I graduate and help others find their drive and success in this fascinating yet challenging subject. I have no former experience beyond teaching my peers, but I have learned from the mistakes of the teachers who taught me and I'm looking forward to bringing my unique and developing philosophy on teaching into practice.
