[COVID-19 UPDATE: Online teaching works great with me! All of my students have made the shift to get their lessons online and are so happy to still be able to improve and be challenged, all this from the comfort of their homes!]
My name is Yasmina, I moved to Los Angeles in August 2015 to pursue my clarinet studies at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music with the world-renowned Prof. Yehuda Gilad. I recently graduated from the Artist Diploma program, which is one of the most demanding programs in the field of music in the United States. I have a very enjoyable and busy career and have performed in every European country, in several states in the US, in Asia and in Africa.
I have taught many students in Switzerland, in The Netherlands, in Norway and in the US, so I have a really long and varied experience. I adapt myself to each student's level and needs. An intuitive approach to music is my personal favorite, so that the student becomes free to express themselves, yet each student will learn to read the notes and all the musical basics.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you!!
I have taught the clarinet for 15 years privately and in music schools on a weekly basis to many students (ages 7-80) in Switzerland, The Netherlands, Norway and USA. In Switzerland, I was clarinet teacher at Musique et Son in the year 2009-2010, and in Norway, at the Korsvoll School in the year 2014-2015 (students ages 9-14). I have taught at the Santa Monica Conservatory of Music and teach privately. I have taught at USC Thornton Outreach Community Engagement Program.
I am also a former student of the renowned performance coach Tiziana Pintus (Netherlands) to improve positive thinking in students to reach their musical peaks.
I also have a long experience giving interactive concerts in schools, senior homes, prisons and homeless shelters.
As for my performing experience, I am an award-winning clarinetist, laureate of several international competitions and recipient of the full-ride Ingar Dobloug Scholarship. I have performed across Europe and America, incl. at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. I have been guest soloist with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the Nomad Symphony Orchestra and the USC Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with Lior Shambadal, Stefan Asbury and Franck Ollu. My chamber music collaborations have included Hila Plitmann, Peter Frankl and members of the Juilliard and Brentano String Quartets. I have appeared at the International Ensemble Modern Academy and Yellowbarn and collaborated with composers such as Steve Reich and Kalevi Aho. I have been live broadcasted as a soloist on KUSC and KING-FM and recorded in Switzerland an album with works for clarinet and orchestra. I hold a Bachelor from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a Master’s from the Norwegian Academy of Music, as well as an Artist Diploma from USC with Yehuda Gilad.
Travel expenses vary depending on traffic and distance.
Yasimina is a highly effective, yet friendly, French teacher. With me, for example, she focused a lot on the pronunciation of French vowels and consonants (the French “r’”) that are difficult for English speakers.
