FAQ's
📚 When should my child start 11 Plus tutoring?
Starting 11+ preparation at age 9 allows a steady, pressure-free approach rather than last-minute cramming.
- Year 3 (age 7-8): Focus on building confidence and core English and Maths skills without exam pressure.
- Year 4 (age 8-9): Introduce exam content, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning systematically.
- Year 5 (age 9-10): Intensive practice focusing on exam technique, speed, and accuracy under timed conditions.
A gradual two-year approach often produces better results than intensive short-term cramming.
💰 What are the fees for 11 Plus tutoring in Godalming?
Private 11+ tutoring in Godalming generally runs at about £30/h per session.
Prices vary depending on several factors:
- The tutor's experience and qualifications (teaching credentials, 11+ specialism, proven results)
- How selective the schools you are aiming for
- How lessons are conducted (individual tuition, group classes, face-to-face, or via video call)
- Lesson frequency and duration
Many tutors offer package deals or sibling discounts, which can reduce the hourly rate over time.
🎯 What are the main components of the 11 Plus exam?
Children sitting the 11 Plus are tested on English, Maths, and two types of reasoning skills.
- English: Reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sometimes creative writing.
- Mathematics: Arithmetic, fractions, percentages, ratios, algebra basics, geometry, and word problems.
- Verbal Reasoning: Word puzzles, synonyms, antonyms, analogies, codes, and logic problems using language.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning: Measures problem-solving ability independent of language skills.
Understanding the specific test format helps focus preparation on the right question types.
