The fundamentals of choreography rely on several key principles known as BASTE.

• The body: refers to which parts move and how they shape the dance.
• Steps: covers all the moves performed, from simple steps to complex sequences.
• Use of space: involves direction, levels, pathways, and the relationship between dancers.
• Rhythm: relates to speed, beat, and how movement aligns with the music.
• Quality of movement: shapes the intensity and emotion behind every gesture.

Once these basics are mastered, building original routines becomes much easier.

Choreography tutors in Liverpool typically charge £30/h per hour.

Several elements influence the price:

• Your level: your starting point and the goals you want to achieve.
• Teacher's background: qualifications, performance history, and reputation all influence the price.
• Lesson duration and frequency: booking multiple classes at once usually unlocks discounts.
• Teaching mode: whether the tutor travels to you or you visit them affects the cost.

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their style before committing.

Picking up choreography quickly requires a structured approach rather than guesswork.

• Study the moves: study the movement, timing, and execution before trying it yourself.
• Chunk the routine: tackle smaller phrases at a time rather than trying to learn everything at once.
• Practise at half speed: repetition at a slower tempo locks the moves into muscle memory.
• Watch playback: a mirror or recording shows what needs adjusting in posture and timing.
• Feel the rhythm: listening carefully to the song helps you express the choreography fully.

A private choreography tutor speeds up this process enormously by giving instant feedback.
