Find Classics tuition near me in Kingston Upon Thames

Classics is a rich subject that explores the languages, literature, history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.

• Latin and Greek: reading original texts and learning the grammar that underpins them.
• Set texts: studying works such as the Aeneid, the Odyssey, Greek tragedies and Roman histories.
• Historical context: understanding wars, politics, society and daily life in the ancient Mediterranean.
• Culture and ideas: Greek myths, Roman religion, philosophy from Plato to the Stoics, and classical art.

A specialist tutor can tailor lessons to your exam board, focusing on the areas where you most need to progress.

In Kingston Upon Thames, expect to pay about £27/h for an hour of Classics tuition.

The cost depends on a few key things:

• The level taught: secondary school, sixth form or university preparation.
• The tutor's specialism: language teaching, classical civilisation or ancient history.
• The package chosen: one-off sessions or a regular booking discounted by volume.
• The lesson format (online, at the student's home, or at the tutor's location).

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining just as effective for translation and essay work.

Achieving a grade 9 in GCSE Classics requires solid revision habits, strong exam technique and a genuine engagement with the texts.

• Master the prescribed material: each exam board lists specific texts and topics — make sure nothing on that list is unfamiliar.
• Use past exam questions from your specification (OCR, Eduqas) to learn how examiners phrase prompts.
• Build essay structure around argument, evidence and evaluation — examiners reward analysis, not retelling.
• Use precise references to authors, episodes and lines, especially in extended responses.

A private tutor familiar with the OCR or Eduqas specification will tailor revision to the topics most likely to come up in your paper.
