Scholars call these seven recognised recitations the qira'at, each linked to the Prophet Muhammad through a chain of teachers.

• The seven master reciters taught in the great learning centres of Madinah, Makkah, Basra, Damascus and Kufa.
• Two transmitters (ruwat) preserved each reading, so every qira'ah has two narrations.
• The Hafs narration is followed by most printed copies of the Quran, while Warsh is common in North and West Africa.
• The seven qira'at differ from the seven ahruf, a related concept whose exact meaning scholars still discuss.

A private tutor will help you perfect Hafs first, then explore other readings if you wish to go further.

Quran tutors in Rochdale typically charge £15/h.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your current level (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
• The teacher's expertise and background
• The number of lessons booked each week
• The lesson format (online, at home or at the tutor's)

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining effective.

Most beginners follow a clear path, from the Arabic alphabet to full recitation with Tajweed.

• The Noorani Qaida is a classic primer that teaches letters, joining and pronunciation step by step.
• Short vowels (harakat): fatha, kasra and damma tell you how to voice each letter.
• Tajweed rules such as ghunnah and qalqalah give the recitation its correct sound.
• Regular revision of short surahs helps you gain confidence before reading longer passages.

With a private Quran tutor, children and adults progress at their own pace, online or at home.
