Find a creative writing tutor near me in Bath

Creative writing covers a wide range of genres and forms, each with its own techniques and conventions.

Here are the main types you'll encounter in most creative writing courses:

• Prose fiction: invented stories ranging from flash fiction to full-length novels.
• Verse: a form that relies on rhythm, metaphor and imagery to convey feeling.
• Narrative non-fiction: factual writing — biographies, essays, reportage — written with artistic flair.
• Plays and screenplays: writing for stage, screen, radio or podcast formats.
• Hybrid and short forms: micro-fiction, lyrics and personal blogs that blur traditional boundaries.

Working with a private tutor lets you experiment across genres and receive personalised feedback as you develop your style.

In Bath, expect to pay about £18/h for an hour of creative writing tuition.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your current level (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• The teaching mode (in-person or video call)

Comparing several profiles helps you find the best value for your budget.

Starting creative writing can feel daunting, but a few simple habits help you build confidence quickly.

Here are practical steps to take from day one:

• Read like a writer: expose yourself to many styles so you can recognise what you want to emulate.
• Establish a routine: even a short daily session builds the discipline that turns ideas into finished pieces.
• Try writing exercises: experiment with character sketches and dialogue-only scenes to develop your craft.
• Polish your work: leave a draft for a day, then return to refine flow, clarity and word choice.

A private tutor offers structured guidance, honest critique and the encouragement that keeps beginners writing.
