Find a creative writing tutor near me in Bodmin

Creative writing isn't a single discipline — it includes several major forms that beginners can explore one by one.

These are the genres most commonly explored by aspiring writers:

• Fiction: novels, novellas and short stories built around imagined characters and plots.
• Poetry: a form that relies on rhythm, metaphor and imagery to convey feeling.
• Literary non-fiction: memoirs, personal essays and travel writing told with literary craft.
• Drama and screenwriting: writing intended to be performed, with dialogue and stage direction at its heart.
• Other genres: flash fiction, song lyrics, journals and experimental writing.

A qualified creative writing tutor can help you discover which form best suits your voice and guide you through your first pieces.

A private creative writing lesson in Bodmin costs approximately £14/h.

The first steps in creative writing are about playing with ideas, reading widely and writing little and often.

A structured beginner's plan looks like this:

• Read widely: explore novels, short stories and poetry across genres to absorb how authors craft their work.
• Write regularly: even a short daily session builds the discipline that turns ideas into finished pieces.
• Start with prompts: photo prompts, first-line challenges and timed sprints unlock ideas when you feel stuck.
• Rewrite your drafts: treat the first draft as raw material and use editing to shape your real story.

An experienced creative writing teacher tailors exercises to your interests and helps you build a portfolio step by step.
