FAQ's
📝 Which genres fall under creative writing?
There are many branches of creative writing, and each one offers a different way to express ideas and emotions.
Among the core forms studied in creative writing classes:
- Fiction: novels, novellas and short stories built around imagined characters and plots.
- Poetic writing: a condensed, rhythmic form that uses imagery and sound to express emotion.
- Narrative non-fiction: memoirs, personal essays and travel writing told with literary craft.
- Plays and screenplays: writing intended to be performed, with dialogue and stage direction at its heart.
- Short forms: micro-fiction, lyrics and personal blogs that blur traditional boundaries.
A qualified creative writing tutor can help you discover which form best suits your voice and guide you through your first pieces.

📖 What's the best way to begin creative writing?
Getting started with creative writing comes down to building a routine and giving yourself permission to experiment.
Try these approaches to get going:
- Read widely: explore novels, short stories and poetry across genres to absorb how authors craft their work.
- Practise daily: set aside 15 to 30 minutes each day for free writing or short exercises.
- Try writing exercises: photo prompts, first-line challenges and timed sprints unlock ideas when you feel stuck.
- Polish your work: treat the first draft as raw material and use editing to shape your real story.
