Find a creative writing tutor near me in Mildenhall

Creative writing isn't a single discipline — it includes several major forms that beginners can explore one by one.

Here are the main types you'll encounter in most creative writing courses:

• Prose fiction: invented stories ranging from flash fiction to full-length novels.
• Poetic writing: a form that relies on rhythm, metaphor and imagery to convey feeling.
• Literary non-fiction: true stories shaped with the techniques of fiction, such as memoir and essay.
• Drama and screenwriting: writing for stage, screen, radio or podcast formats.
• Other genres: flash fiction, song lyrics, journals and experimental writing.

Working with a private tutor lets you experiment across genres and receive personalised feedback as you develop your style.

Creative writing tutors in Mildenhall typically charge £20/h per hour.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• The level of study (school, university or hobbyist)
• The instructor's credentials and track record
• How often you meet and the length of each session
• Where the sessions take place

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their approach before committing.

The first steps in creative writing are about playing with ideas, reading widely and writing little and often.

Here are practical steps to take from day one:

• Read like a writer: expose yourself to many styles so you can recognise what you want to emulate.
• Practise daily: even a short daily session builds the discipline that turns ideas into finished pieces.
• Start with prompts: try the "show, don't tell" exercise or describe a memory using all five senses.
• Rewrite your drafts: leave a draft for a day, then return to refine flow, clarity and word choice.

One-to-one lessons help you set realistic goals, avoid common pitfalls and develop a writing voice that feels truly yours.
