Using 5-6-7-8 separates the preparation from the dance itself, which always starts on count 1.

• Most popular music follows a 4/4 time signature, meaning four beats per bar.
• Dancers learn routines in sections of eight, which feel natural and match musical phrases.
• This lead-in gives dancers a shared reference point to move together.

It works like a starting signal so nobody misses the first step.

A private dance lesson in Greenock generally runs about £9/h.

This price can vary depending on several factors:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
• The teacher's experience and qualifications (professional credentials, performance history)
• The length and frequency of your sessions
• How you take classes (virtual sessions, home visits or studio-based tuition)

Quite a few instructors provide a free trial lesson so you can test their teaching style before committing.

Street dance and hip-hop appeal to beginners who enjoy energetic, freestyle movement.

• Salsa and bachata use repetitive patterns and let you dance socially within weeks.
• Hip-hop foundations teach isolations, grooves and musicality without strict rules.
• If long-term technique matters to you, classical training creates a strong base.
