Dancers count 5, 6, 7, 8 as a preparation before the actual choreography begins on beat 1.

• Dance music is typically structured in groups of four beats, called bars or measures.
• Choreography is often phrased in groups of eight counts, spanning two musical bars.
• The preparatory count ensures the whole group enters on time.

Think of 5-6-7-8 as a countdown that ends right before the action begins.

The average cost of a dance lesson in Rochester is around £25/h.

This price can vary depending on several factors:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate or advanced)
• The instructor's training and background (industry certifications and teaching experience)
• The length and frequency of your sessions
• The lesson format (online, at home or in a studio)

Many teachers offer discounted packages for booking multiple sessions, which lowers your cost per hour.

The best dance for beginners depends on your goals, but salsa, bachata and commercial styles offer quick wins.

• These Latin styles build confidence fast because the basic step loops continuously.
• Commercial or street dance classes break down popular moves from music videos.
• These styles progress more slowly but reward patience with exceptional body awareness.

Start with a taster class in two or three styles to discover what feels natural.
