Learn English with an ESOL tutor in Aberdeen

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

The logic behind 70/30 is simple but powerful:

• Active practice builds fluency: the more you speak, the faster you retrieve vocabulary
• Mistakes become learning moments: real-time correction helps you fix habits before they stick
• Confidence grows through use: frequent output builds the courage to speak outside lessons

Standard lessons usually reverse this ratio, with instructors dominating. With a private tutor, you control the conversation and practise more.

Effective tutors design tasks that prompt continuous speaking, from everyday dialogues to workplace situations.

ESOL lessons in Aberdeen typically cost £16/h per hour.

Your final cost depends on these considerations:

• The student's proficiency (Entry Level, Level 1, or Level 2)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (CELTA, DELTA, teaching certificates)
• Lesson length and frequency (weekly sessions, intensive courses)
• The format (video call, in-person, or hybrid)

Some teachers provide lower rates for regular weekly commitments. Choosing online tuition often saves money without sacrificing results. Most tutors offer a first session at no charge to ensure a good fit.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. These are English classes created specifically for learners with a different mother tongue.

Your ESOL tutor will focus on building four key abilities:

• Reading: grasping written English in practical contexts
• Writing: crafting written responses for real-world needs
• Listening: understanding native speakers in various accents
• Oral fluency: building conversational confidence for daily interactions

ESOL differs from standard English lessons because it prioritises real-life UK contexts.
