Learn English with an ESOL tutor in Carrickfergus

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

The logic behind 70/30 is simple but powerful:

• Active practice builds fluency: speaking out loud trains your brain to form sentences quickly
• Mistakes become learning moments: real-time correction helps you fix habits before they stick
• Confidence grows through use: regular speaking practice reduces anxiety about real conversations

Many courses put the teacher centre stage, which limits student practice. Private ESOL tutoring lets you flip that balance and maximise your speaking time.

A good ESOL tutor creates activities that keep you talking: role-plays, discussions, and real-life scenarios.

Private ESOL tuition in Carrickfergus averages £20/h per session.

Your final cost depends on these considerations:

• Your current English level (Entry Level, Level 1, or Level 2)
• Your tutor's background (CELTA, DELTA, teaching certificates)
• How often you study (one-hour or ninety-minute lessons)
• Lesson type (video call, in-person, or hybrid)

Booking a block of lessons often reduces the hourly rate. Online ESOL lessons can also be more affordable while offering the same quality. Most tutors offer a first session at no charge to ensure a good fit.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. These are English classes created specifically for learners with a different mother tongue.

An ESOL tutor helps students develop four core skills:

• Reading: understanding written texts, from everyday signs to formal documents
• Writing: composing clear sentences, emails, and forms
• Listening skills: understanding native speakers in various accents
• Oral fluency: communicating clearly with colleagues and neighbours

Unlike general English courses, ESOL focuses on practical integration into UK life, work, and education.
