Learn English with an ESOL tutor in Ewell

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

Why this matters for language learning:

• Active practice builds fluency: the more you speak, the faster you retrieve vocabulary
• Mistakes become learning moments: instant guidance prevents fossilised mistakes
• Confidence grows through use: regular speaking practice reduces anxiety about real conversations

Many courses put the teacher centre stage, which limits student practice. With a private tutor, you control the conversation and practise more.

A good ESOL tutor creates activities that keep you talking: role-plays, discussions, and real-life scenarios.

Private ESOL tuition in Ewell averages £26/h per session.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• Your current English level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• Your tutor's background (years of experience, specialist training)
• Lesson length and frequency (one-hour or ninety-minute lessons)
• The format (video call, in-person, or hybrid)

Booking a block of lessons often reduces the hourly rate. Video lessons tend to cost less and still deliver excellent progress. Most tutors offer a first session at no charge to ensure a good fit.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. It describes courses designed for adults whose first language is not English.

Your ESOL tutor will focus on building four key abilities:

• Reading comprehension: understanding written texts, from everyday signs to formal documents
• Written expression: crafting written responses for real-world needs
• Listening skills: following spoken English in conversations and media
• Oral fluency: communicating clearly with colleagues and neighbours

What sets ESOL apart is its emphasis on living, working, and studying in Britain.
