Hello. My name is Darren Elway and I am a 45 year old English proofreader and tutor with 17 years' teaching experience and 6 years' proofreading experience. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach English from early primary (KS1) right through to and including GCSE. I teach Creative Writing, Adult ESOL and Literacy to most levels (Entry 1 up to and including Level 2).
Hi I'm Thomas and have been teaching ESOL to all age groups and levels and learning abilities for a long time.
Hi there, my name is Tom and I'm an EFL teacher. I don't believe in the old-fashioned, boring ways of teaching. They don't work! I strive to make the lessons more fun. The more fun you are having, the more you will learn, and remember.
I have taught ESOL with literacy to adult learners, also English grammar to secondary age EAL learners. I carry out interventions to small groups of students within High schools to teach ks3 and ks4 English language. I teach one to one and small groups.
- Classes Each student attends normally for one session per week for one hour and 20 minutes. In some cases, 2 lessons per week can be offered if deemed necessary. Students will typically spend 20 minutes with the tutor discussing the lesson plan and setting goals followed by written and computer based lessons in a specific area.
I prefer to listen to the student and what they would like to learn. I will discuss way in how to learn, gives them ideas in how to memorise and practise at home. I will also give them useful websites to go over at home and test them with homework.
Personalized learning and dylogic teaching works best for the student, and is the approach I take. I work based on proximal development of the student to maximise learning. I aim for the best in students while facilitating learning in manageable and digestible chunks.
I can either teach grammar , or some students like to have free conversation to practise what they have learnt in a safe environment. I am flexible in how I teach and like my students to enjoy the lessons. I provide lots of opportunities to speak, listen and write. I teach grammar in a fun way as part of a spoken lesson so students understand the context in which the grammar is used.
I prefer to listen and enquire about ways in which you would like to learn. I would then give ideas and support on how to memorise and practice at home in a way which would suit your needs. Once I am confident that you are prepared and happy I would then test you with homeworks and activities to carry out at home in ways to make your learning fun.
I base each lesson on the individual student, taking a unique approach to each lesson. I like to find out about my students preferred learning styles and reasons for wanting to learn English, then I will plan lessons around this, so that they can achieve what they most desire from each lesson.
My teaching methodology is flexible according to the subject, the student and their requirements. With exam preparation classes, I stick to a course plan in order to cover all relevant topics and ensure that my student is adequately prepared.
