Find a French Tutor Near Me in Inverness

The subjunctive is widely considered the trickiest tense in French. Unlike the indicative, it deals with feelings, wishes, and uncertainty.

• Trigger phrases — You need the subjunctive after "je doute que", "il est possible que", and similar phrases.
• Irregular stems — High-frequency verbs have unique subjunctive forms you must memorise.
• Practice tip — Memorise complete phrases before analysing the grammar.

Regular practice with real sentences helps this tense feel less intimidating over time.

The average price for a French lesson in Inverness is around £17/h.

This rate depends on several factors:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• Your teacher's background and credentials (years of experience, exam specialisms)
• Lesson length and frequency (weekly, intensive, or occasional)
• The lesson format (video call, face-to-face, or hybrid)

Opting for online lessons can also reduce fees while keeping quality high. Quite a few tutors give a free first lesson so you can check the fit before committing.

The 80/20 rule suggests that roughly 20% of French vocabulary accounts for 80% of everyday speech.

Instead of learning random vocabulary, you focus on what native speakers actually use.

• Core vocabulary — A focused list of essential terms takes you further than a scattered approach.
• Grammar priorities — Focus on the tenses you will actually use before studying rare literary forms.
• Real-world exposure — Conversations naturally repeat high-frequency words and patterns.

Smart prioritisation helps you communicate sooner, which keeps motivation high.
