I am an enthusiastic tutor determined to improve the abilities of students! With experience as a teaching assistant, I aim to make lessons enjoyable, while ensuring they are focused and beneficial. While I am completely flexible, the structure of lessons will usually involve a mixture of teaching concepts, practice questions, directed feedback and specific exam technique.
My focus is on giving students CONFIDENCE to tackle challenging questions, and encouraging them to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX rather than setting robotic tasks over and over again. I set regular assignments tailor-made to the students needs, with typical questions that may be set in school or by the exam board, and one or two more challenging "stretch questions".
My main teaching method is practice practice practice. As a tutor, patience and a kind approach are the key to a successful lesson. For maths, it’s vital to have a basic understanding in order to progress, so I ensure that this has been grasped before moving on to more complex topics.
In the climate of the new harsh GCSE and A-levels, I want to create a friendly stress-free environment with emphasis on more than just passing exams. I am keen to help young people who are struggling with confidence in the subject by finding a way of approaching it that suits them and also those who are confident but are not being pushed to the next level in school.
My teaching method is relaxed, and tailored to the students needs, depending on how many students in each class, as sometime it is one-to-one, or classes, where the maximum is 6 students. Each class is based on where the student is, thus the topics are chosen to their level.
Currently, I teach the Maths GCSE curriculum with a view to expand to Maths A-level. I am able to teach any curriculum, provided I have time for preparation, but I have the most experience with the IGCSE Edexcel syllabus. I am strongly for catering to the unique needs of the student so first I ask them what topics they feel less confident with.

I have a degree in Business Management and Information Communication Technology. I'm very passionate in Maths so I started teaching maths almost 5years ago. I have been preparing short notes for the students and asks them to teach me what they learnt during the session help me to teach them and understand them easier and also I assured myself that they understood what I taught.
I am very enthusiastic about maths and would like to think that this has been passed on to the students I have tutored! I will provide resources and lesson plans, and I keep up to date with the work the student is studying at school to make sure they are on track with their progress.
My general work habit is to test them to find their weaknesses in their subjects and then tailor a lesson and questions to their required level. I also usually start all lessons with covering stuff they have either just covered in school or they think they need to work on. By starting lessons this way I believe it reinforces what they learn at school better than school homework can.
My methodology depends on the kind of student I'm working with. When working with students, who are underachieving in their classes, I focus on eliminating gaps in their foundational knowledge (which in my experience causes about 80% of underperformance in math).
As a tutor, I would approach to suit different learning styles because students may have different needs and areas of difficulty. Also, I aim to cover exam topics by doing relevant examples and providing detailed solutions. I would try my best to help and motivate students to reach their full potential.
My lessons are unique and tailored to each student. A baseline test is used to assess their strengths and weaknesses, which is then used to determine the structure of the following lessons. Each topic is covered thoroughly and progression only occurs after I am certain that the student understands the concept.
My teaching method is methodical, working alongside the set syllabus and progressing one part at a time. In areas where the student finds the subject area easy, the time spent is less but is sufficient to ensure full understanding is gained. Where the subject area is more difficult, more time and resources are used to ensure that the concept at hand is completely understood.
Always start with a puzzle. This has served me well teaching from primary level to A-Level. The lesson should always start with a problem that draws the student in and gets them thinking. Really thinking. Playing around with numbers, concepts and different approaches is the corner stone of mathematical creativity. This is the base, from which, the rest of the lesson can flow from.
In the past (while I was in 6th form) I have guided students completing GCSEs in Maths and Physics (including a year 8 child!), and have also informally helped other A Level students completing the same A Levels as me, helping one to improve by 4 grades.
I follow closely to each student’s syllabus and exam board, offering alternative explanations for concepts & techniques than they had experienced in class. I focus on improving confidence in their abilities and ensure they are fully prepared for any eventuality in an exam situation.
My sessions are for any students up to and including A-levels that are struggling with concepts that have been visited in their own lessons at school.
