My name is Pete and I'm a 45 year old private Maths tutor. I can teach to any level and try to make Maths a more enjoyable subject for all students. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach Maths - I mainly tutor GCSE, A level (including Further Maths) and International Baccalaureate (all 3 levels).
I like to introduce topics by verbally asking questions to judge the student's understanding of the topic, as often they may be able to answer some of the mathematical questions required of them in the exam but there may not be an underlying understanding.
My teaching method is to build up the difficulty from what is already achievable within a specific topic until we reach a point that the student cant complete (scaffolding) and then work on why they couldn't get past the difficulty. This is easily applicable within Maths.
I like to break each topic down into its simplest parts and then show the links between each part to develop a full understanding. I find that it is easier to learn if you have a solid understanding of the basics to build upon, which is often rushed in class.
My teaching methodology consists of a certain structure which is the following: Re-cap of previous lesson, new concept, examples of new concept, practice questions for new concepts, advanced examples, brain teaser to finish! The re-cap at the start of the lesson will ensure that everything being taught is recalled as I am a strong believer in repetition being the key to perfection.

My method of teaching is all based around the idea of building strong foundations in subjects, and connecting ideas. Most concepts in mathematics are built off of more fundamental ones. The same is true for most subjects. But for mathematics it is especially important because basic concepts are absolutely integral to understanding much harder ones.
I am a qualified maths teacher turned tutor. I have a PhD in maths so have a great understanding of this demanding yet rewarding subject. My aim will be to lead you through the complexities with patience and enhance your understanding. - Which subject(s) do you teach? GCSE maths A level maths and Further maths IB maths STEP Oxford MAT Degree level maths - Tell me about your qualifications.
