Find a guitar teacher near me in Croydon

A beginner guitarist should start with proper posture, tuning, and a handful of open chords.

• A tuner app or clip-on device helps you tune quickly and accurately.
• Mastering open chords gives you a solid foundation for rhythm playing.
• Start with simple downstrokes before mixing in upstrokes for more complex grooves.

Once you can switch between a few chords smoothly, try playing along to a simple song you enjoy.

Guitar lessons in Croydon typically cost about £25/h per hour.

This rate often differs depending on several factors:

• The student's level (complete novice through to experienced player)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (conservatoire training, gigging history)
• How long and how often you book (half-hour, full hour, one-off or regular)
• The lesson format (via video call, face-to-face, or at a music school)

Online lessons tend to be cheaper since neither party travels. Some teachers include a free trial lesson so you can check the fit before committing.

This principle, also called the Pareto principle, helps guitarists focus on high-impact skills.

• Most hit songs from the 1960s to today use variations of these basic chords.
• Many famous riffs use just five notes from this versatile scale.
• Solid strumming makes you valuable in a band, even without advanced solos.

By focusing on high-value skills first, you sound musical faster and avoid wasted hours.
