The first skills to learn on guitar are tuning, basic chords, and simple strumming patterns.

• Tuning means adjusting each string to the correct pitch, usually E-A-D-G-B-E from low to high.
• Open chords like E minor, A minor, C, G, and D are the building blocks of countless songs.
• Strumming patterns teach your picking hand how to keep time and add rhythm to chords.

Practice chord transitions slowly at first, then build speed as your fingers remember the shapes.

The average price for a guitar lesson in Lichfield is around £43/h.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• Your current ability (complete novice through to experienced player)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (conservatoire training, gigging history)
• Lesson length and frequency (30 minutes, 60 minutes, weekly or fortnightly)
• How you take your lessons (via video call, face-to-face, or at a music school)

Booking a package of lessons often brings the hourly rate down. A first session at no charge is common, letting you test the teaching style.

The 80/20 rule suggests that 20% of your practice delivers 80% of your results.

• Core chords like G, C, D, E, and A appear in the majority of popular songs.
• The pentatonic scale is the 20% of theory that unlocks 80% of lead guitar solos.
• Rhythm and timing matter more than flashy techniques for playing with others.

The 80/20 mindset cuts through information overload and keeps your practice efficient.
